I wasn’t very impressed with the Saltworks Castle in Wieliczka. The castle looked more like a normal building than a castle. In fact, it probably doesn’t even stand out from the rest of the buildings here in Wieliczka except for its size. I didn’t bother going in the museum which is housed in the castle but just stayed outside for photos. I noticed that one end of the castle grounds has a tower. I wasn’t sure if it was the original one but I won’t be surprised to know that it is a reconstruction. There is a flight of stairs going up the tower and stairs are meant for climbing.

The tower isn’t very tall, nor was there any need for it to be that tall. It used to serve as a prison and I think I can see how. It wasn’t very easy to reach the top floor since there was a bit tricky footwork that is need to reach it. I supposed prisoners were just kept here. The top of the tower had a view of the castle itself and it wasn’t that great but probably better than most views of the castle. There weren’t a lot of stuff here apart from one thing, there was a huge pair of bellows, the type to keep a fire going. I’m not sure how to operate something this large but it seems that it was put there as part of the exhibition.
