Arcaded Courtyard at Wawel Castle

I was quite surprised to see how much of Wawel Castle was open to the public. I suppose that it is such an important place to the people of Poland and that this treasure is meant to be shared with everyone. There is still an entrance ticket to be paid and that is to see the interiors of the castle. I would have to do that on a different day since it was already late in the day. There were still places which I didn’t go to and I happened to run into it in my wanderings about the castle.

This place is the royal courtyard of the castle. What was striking about the courtyard was that it was arcaded. It is quite unlike any other courtyard I have ever visited. I originally thought that it looked more like ruins of the courtyard but this was the actual design of the place. I think it gives the occupants of the castle a little more light. I can imagine having a path along the inside of the castle where people can walk around and not have to go down. It is almost like the inside of a fancy mall. I don’t see people along the arcades so it is probably off limits to visitors.
