The Wawel Castle is one of Krakow’s most well known landmarks. I honestly don’t know much about Krakow apart from it being in Poland and where Pope John Paul II came from. It is interesting to be able to visit this part of the world which I know hardly anything about. It is also nice that Krakow has a lot of sights nearby which makes it a good base to visit this part of the country. It was already past lunch time and wouldn’t be able to go elsewhere. I do have the time to spend in the old town so I decided to take a walk around this charming town.

Wawel Castle was the seat of the royal throne in Poland for centuries. Over the years, the kings have built an impressive castle here at Wawel Hill, which gives it an impressive view of the surrounding area. In fact, Wawel Castle can be easily seen in the entire town. The castle was built under King Casimir III the Great. It is said to be representative of several architectural styles, which probably points to the time it took to complete the structure. Probably most prominent are the towers of the castle which have a prominent clock face on it. The walls of the castle are made of red brick which lends it that nice color. There are a few walking tours to be done here in Krakow and one of them includes the castle.
