Going to Warsaw

It would be a few months before I got to visit anything interesting again. One day, I was told that Aerlingus was on sale and got interested in looking for a destination. I didn’t really have any good ideas. Although probably any of the destinations on the website would have been equally good. My good friend suggested I visit Warsaw. I have never been there, nor has my good friend been their either. I must admit that I don’t know much about Warsaw or Poland for that matter. I did some bit of research on what to see there and it seem that it is quite the destination as well. Long story short, I purchased the tickets and I was soon on my way to Warsaw.

I dread to go to places where I think communication might be an issue. I had these thoughts that Poland might be one of those places. In my research, it seems they would know Russian more than they know English. Fortunately, my fears were unfounded. The airport was pretty standard and I didn’t have to worry about finding out where to go. There was a train which goes to the city and I needed to purchase tickets there. One of the things I found out was that Poland isn’t part of the Euro zone. This means I needed to change money. The airport isn’t exactly the best place to change money so I only changed a small amount just to get me to town.

The train was okay. It wasn’t ultramodern like the ones in Asia but it was good enough. One thing to remember is to press a button on the door when boarding or alighting from the train. It won’t open by default. My destination is Warsaw Central or Warszawa Centralna. However, it is still not where I will be staying. I had to walk for 30 mins to get to the Old Town of Warsaw. I would later know that there is a bus service which brings people from Warsaw Central to the Old Town. It is also the same one which brings people to the airport.

I didn’t have time to take photos, not with a large backpack with me. I’d rather first drop the bag at the apartment then start taking photos. I would be staying at an apartment inside the Old Town of Warsaw. I managed to find the place but it seems that I arrived a bit early. The lady in charge was still trying to tidy up the place and I was asked to come back later. I would know that she manages several apartments in the buildings here something like a pool of apartments for tourists. She was continuously on the phone answering customers questions as well as contacting her suppliers. I eventually got an apartment at one of the buildings just off the main square of the Old Town. I don’t know if the building is occupied but I didn’t seem that there was anyone else there. The lights were dim and it made me a little worried.
