The Blasket Center

Looking at the Great Blasket Island

The next stop of my tour of the Slea Head Drive is The Blasket Center. I knew that one of the outlying islands here is named Blasket but I would have thought that the Blasket Center would actually be on the island itself. The sign to the Blasket Center brought me to this center not too far from the water. I felt that it was a museum meant to showcase how people there lived. I wasn’t too keen on that though. There was a large parking area outside the center but the grounds of the center are open to the public.

I decided not to go in the center but just stay outside and have a look at the scenery. There wasn’t a clear path here and I ended up walking on the grass. I guess if you decided to visit the center you go through the museum and eventually end up outside like me. The garden outside gives you a look at the Great Blasket Island. It wasn’t really very special from here. Since the viewing angle is almost at sea level. I thought it would have been better had it had been from an elevated location. It wasn’t that impressed so I didn’t linger that much. I quickly left for the next destination.
