Stones at Kenmare Stone Circle

I didn’t really plan on lingering in Kenmare. This place was merely a stopover for me on my way to Kerry. However, there seemed to be a lot of people here and I was wondering what exactly is here. I like their Main Street which seems to be teeming with activity. I was beginning to wonder if I actually missed anything here. I had a look at my phone to see what else was interesting here. It seems that they have a stone circle here. I just visited a stone circle in Blarney Castle, I’m beginning to see that these kinds of places are not uncommon on Ireland.

The people who lived here seem to use stones a lot. Whether it was as a fort or as a stone circle. The locals seems to know how to use stones. Stone circles seem to be common in this part of the country. This one in particular seems to be quite old having been dated to 2200 BC. This on in Kenmare seem to be the largest stone circle in south west Ireland. There are 15 stones here and it is said that the stones are aligned with the setting sun. It is kind of difficult to understand this since there are fifteen stones in total. At the center is a monument called a boulder burial. It seems to be unique to this part of the country.
