After a few hours walking around Antwerp, I think I already like the place. It has a more elegant feel compared to the other cities in Belgium I have been to. Perhaps it is because we didn’t really go through the rougher parts of the city as compared to what we went through in Brussels. Antwerp used to be a Europe’s busiest port and that has given rise to what is now the old quarter of Antwerp. A lot of the old structures are still here and they seemed to be very well maintained despite their age.

It is a joy to walk the streets here. Somehow, it feels safer compared to Brussels. I can’t really put my finger on it. Perhaps it is because there are much less people walking around here compared to Brussels? Perhaps it is the outdoor cafes which seem to be quite common here. Or is the elegant buildings which exude a kind of class that I didn’t feel in Brussels. Antwerp Old Town is just a small part of the bigger modern city of Antwerp, I think it is time we explore other parts of it.
