Going Up the Escalator at the Segovia Railway Station

I was pleasantly surprised at the availability of high speed rail here in Spain. I guess it is a given since they have been operating trains for a long time, but it is really good to see that high-speed options are available especially for the tourists. I didn’t have to worry about taking the bus and figuring out where to get off. From the Chamartin Railway station in Madrid, you can take a high speed train to visit the Old Town of Segovia. I was intending to visit the Old Town of Segovia the previous day but I had issues with the tickets which made me go to the Historic City of Toledo first. I think it still worked out in the end as I was able to purchase the train tickets from Atocha Railway station even if the train was leaving from Chamartin.

The train going to Segovia was also operated by Renfe. The AVE is their brand for high speed rail. The AVE service also goes further out the country. It seems that Segovia is just one of the stops in the route, if I was not mistaken, the train may also go to Valladolid. I know the train ride is so smooth that you may fall asleep here but you do not want to wake up in the wrong city. Fortunately, the trip was very short, only 28 minutes, thanks for high speed rail. The trip itself was pleasant, you know you are there when you pass the snow capped mountains of the Sierra Guadarrama. The train station at Segovia was not large at all but it was modern and it looks like it was just built. I was surprised at the station here since it was a far cry from the Mudéjar train station that was in the Historic City of Toledo. One this worried me, it seems that there weren’t a lot of people who got off the train. In fact, there were only a handful of us to got off. Something seems wrong, I hope I didn’t make a mistake coming here.
