The Walls of Ebrington Square

The Walls of Ebrington Square in Derry-Londonderry

I was making my way back to the walled city of Derry-Londonderry, from Ebrington Square. There really isn’t much to explore when you only have a large open space to see. Ebrington Square used to be a place for the military and you would expect to see the square used for military parades and drills back then when it was in active military use. As I was making my way down the stairs back to the Peace Bridge, I noticed that there were also walls here in the area surrounding Ebrington Square.

The walls here are very similar to the walls which surround the old town of Derry-Londonderry. Unfortunately, I do not have any information on how new this place is. It stands to reason that the military buildings would have their own walls to serve as protection against invaders. In some parts, the walls appear on both sides of the road, which makes the place even more impressive. All the activities seems to be on the other side of the river Foyle, so there weren’t a lot of people visiting this place. It almost takes you back in time to when it was still dangerous in this area.
