It is not easy to remember places in Lijiang Ancient Town since pretty much every other house looks like the other. That part of the beauty of Lijiang Ancient Town but it is also one of my frustrations since this makes it very difficult to remember exactly where I was. This is made doubly frustrating when night falls. Now all the shops are lit up but they still look alike. I can imagine the difficult to sending mail to this place it must be a mail man’s nightmare.
However, I did manage to find a place which I remember quite well. Actually, it isn’t a building but it was an open space. It was a godsend here in Lijiang Ancient Town which is packed to the brim with Ming and Qing era houses. Sifang Street is one of those rare open spaces here. The name itself is a bit strange and at the same time it makes sense. Sifang means square and if you look, this open space is indeed a square. It is not surprising to see numerous local and foreign tourist come to this place to people watch.
