Walking by the Beautiful Waterways of Lijiang Ancient Town 丽江古城
I was immediately attracted to the beautiful waterways of Lijiang. They seem to be everywhere. As you may already know. The town was built with the waterways in mind and they do make good use of them. A lot of streets incorporate the waterways as part of the pedestrian scene. For the most part, the waters seem to be very clear. I think it is a good sign to see this since the Chinese have an abysmal record of taking care of the environment. Perhaps this one is really different. The waterways are part and parcel of the Lijiang Ancient Town experience. It is to their best interest to keep the waters clean.

Probably the more attractive locations in the town would be the ones along the watersways. Not only does it add beauty to the location but it also serves a practical purpose. It wasn’t just a few times that I saw kitchen staff take water from the flowing waterway and bring it inside. Presumably they use it for washing their dishes. The water seems clean enough for this purpose. Looking at the water you can see right through the water. In fact there are plants growing in the water, which I take as a good sign of the water’s cleanliness.
