The ancient town of Lijiang was far larger than I had anticipated. This was probably the largest ancient town I have every been to, and the others weren’t slouches either. Despite its vastness, Lijiang is crammed with tourists, it fame spreads throughout the country and beyond. The ancient town is what can be considered the epitome of ancient Chinese town. This is what other ancient towns try to achieve. There are several sides to this emulation by other towns. They try to emulate its famed beauty and the way the town is preserved. At the same time, much of the town is already commercialized which has reaped dividends in commercial terms, you may even consider it the largest shopping center in China.

It is difficult to see the beauty of Lijiang ancient town with all the neon lights and all the people jostling for position however, there is an undeniable charm which can be found here, but one would have to look very hard for it. Perhaps waking up hours before everyone else does will give you a glimpse of the the real Lijiang. I intend to do that, I will be staying here for a few days and hopefully, the weather would get a little better. It was the rainy season at that time, and it makes for bad photos. I will be taking it easy for a while, after all, I was on vacation.
