The sun was going down fast and I was still in the vicinity of Tiananmen Square exploring the various historical sites in the area. I haven’t really been around this part of the city so it feels like it was familiar but at the same time new. The massive gate of Tiananmen looms over the distance but I don’t really have any intentions of going in. I had an entire half days exploring that place the previous year and I think once is enough. Beijing has a lot more places to offer other than that. As I was walking closer to the gate, there seemed to be a large number of people gathering around that area.

As it turns out there was a ceremony for the changing of the guard at the flag pole. There were a lot of people around the area and it was very difficult to see what was going on. I should have known this would be happening so I should have positioned myself well, then again, it was going to be difficult when competing against hundreds of other visitors. I didn’t hang around for the actual ceremony since it was taking a while. It was already sun down and I was getting hungry, I only had a meager lunch of sausages at the Yuanmingyuan Park I guess it was time for dinner.
