Leaving Pingyao 平遥

It is really strange how I would wake up much much earlier than normal when I am abroad and not tired when I am in a different country. I would normally wake up late and rushing off to work when I get up. Maybe I don’t get enough rest at home or the bed isn’t comfortable enough. Anyway, I was leaving Pingyao that morning and with only a small backpack with me, I checked out of the Harmony Guesthouse. I left by the western exit and thought that the bus station was right there but they told me it was not that and I would need to take a cab to get there.

The people there hired me a motorcycle taxi for CNY 10 to bring me to the bus station which turned out to be not as far as they made it out to be. I purchased tickets to Taiyuan to get my ride back to Beijing. It was also then that I noticed that there was a new trip from Pingyao to Beijing for CNY 150, they said it would take around six hours, I thought about it but decided to take the high speed train from Taiyuan instead. Outside the bus station there were touts selling me tickets to Taiyuan but I knew better than to deal with them. She yelled at me that “it was all the same anyway”.

As it turned out, she was right. As the bus pulled out of the bus station, it stopped somewhere beyond the station and she started filling the bus up with passengers. I guess this way, the bus earns more instead of paying the bus station the right to use the station. Anyway, it didn’t really matter. The ride was only one and a half hour to Taiyuan, hopefully I would be able to get a ticket immediately.
