Inside the Shanghai World Financial Center 上海世界金融中心

I was very excited to be visiting one of the tallest buildings in the world, the Shanghai World Financial Center 上海世界金融中心. As it is usual for buildings of this size to have a viewing deck, I was debating whether I should fork out the RMB 150 to have a look from Shanghai’s tallest point. It would be sight indeed while I was considering I decided to have a look at the inside of the building itself. The lobby was quite ordinary which was a let down for me. There were a few levels of shopping at the building and that wasn’t that impressive either. It seems like this was a pure business center.

I was feeling a little disappointed until I went to the toilet. It was surprisingly nice, though I guess in the city they have better standards. The toilet was hotel-like and they had what was probably the most advanced toilet seat I had ever seen, and used. The seat had a few fancy controls and I was wondering what they were for. So I couldn’t resist trying the seat out. It turns out it has temperature controls on the seat itself. It was quite warm, hopefully not because someone else just used it before me. There were also nozzles below the seat where water can gush out to wash your private parts.

What was amusing is that the angle of the jet of water can be controlled electronically from a remote at the right of the seat. The water can come from the front or the back, whichever way you prefer, it even has temperature control to ensure a very hygenic and satisfying visit to the bathroom. I wish I could have one for my apartment. That brief tour of the bathroom left me with nice feeling that made me forget about the lackluster lobby. I didn’t end up going up the tower after I met a foreigner who said that he’d already been up there but the windows weren’t very clear so it was difficult to get a good view.
