The promenade at the Bund was a surprisingly long walk and great care has been made to make it a pleasant one. It is a great place to appreciate the futuristic Pudong area with its numerous high rises. One can also observe the traffic going through the Huangpu River where a lot of goods are shipped upstream. Actually, the river is so huge I almost thought it was part of the sea. A lot of ships pass through here so it wasn’t really that far fetched.

Looking Through the Monument

Looking Through the Monument

At the end of the promenade was a structure quite out of place here in the Bund. This was the Monument to the People’s Heroes. It was a rather stale looking structure which for me seemed distinctly Chinese in design, very communist. There were carvings of scenes with soldiers at the base of the tower but not really that interesting. I really question the placement of this monument as it could have been better to place it at the somewhere more significant maybe at People’s Square 人民广场.
