Tomb Gate 墓门

Tomb Gate at the Confucius Forest 孔林

For a supposedly private cemetery and forest, the Confucius Forest seems to have a lot of fancy stuff. Just entering the place one would already need to go through numerous gates and just when I thought I was already inside, there was yet another gate. This one is the Tomb Gate built in the Ming Dynasty during the reign of Emperor Yongle. This gate won’t probably be the last one but I’m hoping that it is already the one before the tomb itself.

Upon going through the gate one is led to yet another pathway which is beautifully lined with trees. The atmosphere here is wonderful and makes it feel like it is a walk through the woods. It makes one forget that it is actually a cemetery they are walking through. For once, it doesn’t feel like it is a tourist attraction that I was walking through. The tourist crowds are nowhere in sight, probably because the place was so big. There are numerous things to see here but I am short on time.
