Beijing National Center for the Performing Arts 国家大剧院

Although the Forbidden City was a very fascinating place, I could not afford to spend the whole day there. I needed to somewhere else but while I was already there, I needed to drop by one of the more modern structures here in the vicinity of the Forbidden City. By going through an underpass, I quickly made my way back to the subway station, but beyond that way my destination. The National Center for the Performing Arts 国家大剧院 is a very modern structure and as the name implies, it plays host to several acts both local and foreign.

The ultra-modern structure is quite a huge contrast with the traditional Chinese architecture of the Forbidden City. Much has been said about building the complex so close to the historical Forbidden City, although it is still some distance back from the entrance of the Forbidden City. It looks more like an egg half floating on the water. There were actually quite a few visitors to the center but I didn’t have time to go in the building itself. It actually reminds me of a smoother version of the Esplanade in Singapore since they have identical purposes.
