El Nido Hospitality

Grilled Sweet Potato from our Guide

Grilled Sweet Potato from our Guide

I was pleased with our visit to the Bulalacao Falls in El Nido. We hired a guide to bring us that and although he has been to the falls probably a thousand times, it was as if it was his first time there. He was telling stories about the surrounding area as well as his life here in the country. It is not a very convenient life but this hasn’t dampened his zeal for life. He has two kids who was with him when we got back. They also have a dog who also serves as a backup guide. Quite interesting if that was really true, but I didn’t have a chance to test it as I don’t want to be left in the middle of the forest because the dog got tired of waiting for us.

Fresh Coconut Juice from our Guide

While we were taking a break here at their house, our guide was carving out a fresh coconut. I was quite excited since I haven’t had fresh coconut in ages. It was deliciously sweet and refreshing and I went back from two more rounds. I was even trying to get to the meat of the coconut but we didn’t have a spoon available. Anyway, there was more, our host offered us grilled sweet potato. Now, I wasn’t a huge fan of sweet potato, never liked it, so I declined. My friend liked it though, but I thought it was really gracious of guide to offer us what little they have. This is the kind of people you can meet here, untainted by the pressure of city life, people here are just very nice.
