Eiffel Tower from the Bottom

When visiting Paris is it imperative that you visit the Eiffel Tower. True enough, I was in my first visit to Paris and I was looking forward to visiting the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 as the entrance to the World’s Fair. Back then it assumed the title of the world’s tallest building man made structure. It is a marvel of engineering as it is made out of wrought iron. Although the tower is very tall, it is not very dense as most of the structure is air. The tower was designed by Gustave Eiffel, to whom the tower was named after. At the time, the design of the tower wasn’t very well received as it was too different. It turned out that Eiffel was designing for wind resistance as well, which made sense since winds at the top would be very strong. Add the fact that most of the tower is hollow the tower wouldn’t catch as much wind as a solid one.

We were approaching the base of the tower but we noticed that there was no queue to enter the tower. I seems that they have already stopped selling tickets for the day. I thought that was strange since this is probably a very popular place for proposals and dates. A night time view of Paris would be magical. We will have to purchase our tickets some other day. This probably reflects on how much planning we really did since this is not the first time we weren’t able to enter any tourist site. In the meantime, I continued taking photos of this tower, grinning to myself how I finally managed to see it in person.
