Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux

Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux

From the Palce des Quinconces, it was a parade of beautiful buildings one after the other. Sometimes, it was difficult to tell if it was just an ordinary building or it was something special. I guess Bordeaux is really that rich in beautiful architecture. One of the structures which caught my eye was the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux. It is was built in the 1700s and it a neoclassical type of building. As the name implies, the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux was a venue for performances. France is a nation which is very involved in art and culture so live performances like these are part of everyday life.

The building has several columns which almost make it look like a palace of some sort. I wasn’t able to get in the structure but it is said to be modeled after the one in Paris. These days, it is the home of the Opéra National de Bordeaux, and the Ballet National de Bordeaux, just to show you how important arts are to the people of Bordeaux. It is said to be the only wooden frame opera house in France as they have a nasty tendency to burn down.
