Going in Bunratty Castle

Banquet Hall at Bunratty Castle

Banquet Hall at Bunratty Castle

I have been to a few Irish Castles and they tend to be sparse inside. I had impressions that a castle should be lavishly decorated but it is not the case with Irish Castles. A lot of the rooms would tend to be empty and I was wondering how it is for Bunratty Castle. I’m expecting something else since Bunratty Castle is a major tourist attraction. As one approaches the main doors, there is a solid wooden staircase. One door below the staircase has a small exhibit about the castle itself. This part feels like a museum but there was too much reading here. I know that these places have a lot of stories to tell but I guess I don’t have the patience to read all of that. Apparently, no a lot of people come here either since most people head up the stairs through the main door.

I was greeted at the door by a young lady dressed in period costume. I almost didn’t understand her, seems like the accent here is slightly different and I need time to get used to it. I don’t talk too much to other people when I travel, I guess I should but I don’t have the habit. I was led to a hall where there were a lot of visitors. There were a lot of tables here, almost makes it perfect for a banquet. Turns out, there really is a banquet held here every night. It is billed as a medieval banquet and I thought that was a very interesting activity. I don’t normally go for performances but if it comes with dinner I thought why not. There is a booking for the banquet and I didn’t plan on doing that. Perhaps it is something I can do the next time. Looking at the photos of the banquet, it seems to be something interesting.
