Merlion Park

Merlion and the Marina Bay Sands

I was doing some sort of whirlwind tour of the Marina Bay area of Singapore. A lot has changed here and I was hoping to see more of it. I love this place but I don’t really have much time to spend here. It was getting late and I was getting hungry. I didn’t have plans to eat at the fancy restaurants here and I was hoping I would still be able to make it. My last stop here is probably the symbol of Singapore itself or you can say mascot. There was a park build for the Merlion and it is also one of the best spots to take photos of the city.

I lived in Singapore long enough to know that this wasn’t the first spot where the iconic Merlion was sitting. It used to be further behind near where the Fullerton Hotel is. When the Esplanade Bridge was built, the Merlion was hidden behind the bridge and that won’t do. They decided to move the Merlion to a more prominent location and build a new park in the process. I like how they built a view deck right in front of the Merlion so you can get a better view. There are steps beside the Merlion where you can relax. From here you also get a great view of the Marina Bay Sands as well as the Esplanade.
