Watching a Video at De Museummolen

We have finished exploring the windmill at De Museummolen which is a mill museum. It was surprisingly interesting to see the inner workings of a windmill. I thought it was impressive to see how gears and bearings were a implemented using wood. The bearings were cylinders of wood and gears where large wooden wheels with attached teeth on them, also made of wood. It was like some sort of old school machine which it really is. These wooden mechanical parts all work together to drive the screw at the bottom of the mill.

Outside the windmill, there is another hut but rather ill maintained one. It looks more like a shed rather than part of the museum, but it really is part of the museum. There is a big screen television here and visitors can watch a video here that plays on loop. The video here is about the windmills of the Netherlands and how they played a role in creating this country. There were black and white films in the video and it showed how many windmills were built to help pump water out of the low lying areas of the country. It is because of this pumping of water that give rise to the land which I was standing on. It is quite impressive how resilient the people here are in the face of nature.
