Going to Hindeloopen

Procession of Farming Tractors at Hindeloopen

Procession of Farming Tractors at Hindeloopen

Because of a recommendation from a local, we decided to change our route and visit a few places on our way back to Amsterdam. In fact, this was the recommended way back to the city since it is much more convenient as least according to the local. We just finish exploring the beautiful city of Sloten in the province of Friesland. Our next stop is another city, in fact, and even older city of Hindeloopen. It became a city in the the year 1225. Looking at the town it doesn’t seem to be like it is that old. I would have expected the buildings to be rotting but it seemed like it was brand new.

What is obvious here is that Hindeloopen is much closer to the water than Sloten is. It sits on the banks of the IJsselmeer, an artificial lake whose story is another one worth telling. Again, we weren’t sure what to see in this city either. It seems like it was small enough to explore in an hour so we had a go for it. Almost immediately, we ran into this small procession of sorts. There were a lot of tractors used in farming and they were all in one file. I wasn’t sure what that was all about but they seemed to be having fun. I don’t think we can try to ride it though, that surely would have been fun.
