Frites in Ghent

We’ve been in Belgium for several days now, I think I have managed to see and try a lot of good stuff here in the country. I remember that Belgium was famous for its beer and its snacks. The former I think I already had enough to last me until next year but the latter one seems to be a bit lacking for me. I have already tried their Belgian waffles but then again, it is so well known you can even have it outside Belgium. I guess I just don’t know how to look for these kinds of things. We were walking around Ghent and I spotted a snack shop which was selling fries in cones. I have seen this in Brussels but somehow I didn’t get a chance to try it.

You may think that those were just French fries and I would get it anywhere. That may be so, I guess I just wanted the experience of having fries in a cone just like the locals. The cone was actually larger than I expected and I was only ordering for myself. The fries or frites as they call them are thicker than the McDonald’s French fries I am used to. One thing I don’t like about thicker fries is that they tend to be soggy. In Ireland, the fries or chips as they call them seem to be a totally different beast and I don’t like those that much. But the frites here in Belgium was surprisingly good. Although the frites were thicker, it was still crispy, just the way I like it. They even have garlic mayo sauce in it, I ordered mine separate for fear it might taste weird but the sauce was also nice. I ended up eating more frites elsewhere while I was still in the area. I just wish the fries where I live were as nice as these.
