Going to Ghent Again

We woke up early the following day, hoping to catch a train out of Brussels to the Western town of Tournai. There is a famous cathedral which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and I was hoping to visit it. We purchased tickets at the kiosk to Tournai and waited for the train. The schedule of the train kept moving until it disappeared completed. Confused a few people figured that there won’t be a train coming possibly because they were still on strike. Unfortunately, we didn’t understand the language, all I know was they were calling out Tournai, which I assumed was a call for people who want to share a cab to go to Tournai.

Much as I want to go with them, I thought it would be better to change plans instead. There is no guarantee that there will be a train heading back to Brussels on the way back. There is even less chance that there will be a group of people willing to share a cab to go to Brussels. Fortunately, refunding the train ticket was a snap. There were staff working at the train station and I had the ticket changed to a Ghent bound ticket and had the rest refunded. This time, the Ghent bound trains were more plentiful, however we seemed to have taken the local train. Which goes through several villages and makes a lot of stops. I remember the ride to Ghent was much faster but I think that was because we were on the express line.
