Antwerp City Hall

The Grote Markt in Antwerp is a beautiful place to walk. There are several beautiful buildings which line the square, notably, the guildhalls here which are like corporations back in the day. Most prominent here in the square is the large single building which is the Antwerp City Hall. The city hall building was built because of the rising prosperity of Antwerp. It is built in the Renaissance style and it is a very beautiful building. The city hall is said to be the inspiration for other buildings in the region which includes the Netherlands, Germany and Poland.

Flags at the Antwerp City Hall

As you can see the style is rather imposing and it is really meant to impress. There were a multitude of national flags on display here. The flags make the forbidding building a bit more welcoming. I don’t think there was any occasion back then to display the flags and I assume that it always there. There is a fountain in front of the city hall and it is an open style fountain where you can just walk in an get soaked if you want. The water doesn’t pool that much so I guess it is good for kids to play in. The square is really beautiful, I just wish I would be able to see it at night.
