Antwerp Railway Station

Cavernous Antwerp Railway Station

I’m a horrible travel planner, I was going all over the Belgium without any idea what to see in the cities which we were visiting. A friend of once visited Antwerp and said that it was a nice place to visit. Now, I actually have a reason to visit Antwerp but apart from that reason, I don’t know what else is here. We took the train from Brussels to Antwerp on the day of a railway strike. Part of me was worried that we won’t have a train to catch back home. I looked at Google Maps and it listed train services up until midnight, however I don’t know if it took the strike into consideration in that listing. Anyway, I will have to worry about that later since we have already arrived at Antwerp.

The railway station was huge. Almost immediately, your eyes will be drawn to the wall where all the trains are facing. It was almost cathedral-like in the design. Punctuated by a small clock in the middle as most railway stations usually are. There railway station has a glass roof letting a lot of light into the station which is normally dark. I liked how you can have a good look at the trains as well since they have a platform where viewers can admire the trains. The rest of the railway station is just as impressive since it feels like you are walking inside a church. It guess that gives you an idea of how large the station is. I think this has got to be one of the most beautiful railway stations I have ever been to.
