Going to Antwerp

Arrival at Antwerp Railway Station

Arrival at Antwerp Railway Station

The next day was going to be another out of town trip. I was hoping that the day would be much better since it was practically raining the whole day. We got out earlier this time so we can catch the train to the city of Antwerp. I think I have heard of Antwerp but for some reason I never got to know where it actually was. Antwerp is in the northern province of Antwerp in Belgium and it is right next to the Netherlands. Knowing this, I felt bad since we could have spent the night in Antwerp instead of having to shuttle from one city to another. I hope I would be able to plan better next time.

Belgium has a very comprehensive network of train lines. This naturally follows that the major cities have very frequent connections. I am aware that there was an impending railway strike and I believe it has already started. Fortunately, a lot of the services were still there but on a reduced basis. Fortunately for us, Antwerp is so important that they won’t be able to reduce the frequency by that much. I almost feel bad boarding the train knowing that there was a strike. I look at the staff and I think that they must feel bad that they should not be working today. At least the service didn’t suffer that much. We zipped through the towns on our way to Antwerp. It seems that we are on a high speed train and it was quite exciting. It takes over two hours to get to Antwerp from Brussels, and this is through the not so fast trains. The truly high speed trains are much faster.
