Manneken Pis in Brussels

I have been able to visit various parts of Brussels, some might argue that the ones I visited might not be that famous but I guess that’s what I tend to go for. I found out that there was a major landmark here in Brussels which I still have to visit. It is funny that what might be Brussels most well known landmark slipped through my hands. I honestly didn’t know that this one was from Brussels though I’m sure that I have seen it in photos. Manneken Pis is Brussels’ most famous landmark. It is basically a statue of a boy peeing into water below. The name means “little boy pee” in Dutch.

I’m sure that I have seen numerous signs pointing the way to the Manneken Pis but I guess it didn’t register until I looked through my checklist again. Today, I remembered to drop by here. The rain wasn’t as bad as earlier to our delight. With the help of our satnav, we were able to locate the statue in no time. My first impression was how small it actually was. I guess you can think that the size of the boy almost approximates a live one. There is a fence protecting the fountain and there were numerous tourists around the fountain. It was difficult for me to take a photo of the Manneken Pis since I only had a wide angle lens. At the time, the Manneken Pis is all in its naked glory. But various times of the year, the Manneken Pis is playfully dressed up in different attire. In fact, visiting statesmen have given national costumes as gifts when visiting Brussels.
