I was enjoying the local Belgian Beer which I admit is a much stronger that what I am used to. I was careful not to overdo it since I don’t want to be drunk and struggling to get on my feet on my way back to Brussels. Fortunately, there is a restaurant which was just across the river from where we were. The bridge was nearby which was very convenient. It is basically a product of a Tripadvisor search and this one was the nearest one which came up. Apparently, there was a restaurant attached to the beer house we were at but I didn’t notice. Anyway, Sparerib Cafe sounds much more interesting to me. After all, if they have it in their name, then it has got to be good.

The Sparerib Cafe was a nice cozy restaurant. We had an awkward seat near the main door, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the food. I actually wondered what spareribs was and it turned out to be what I know as baby back ribs. I love baby back ribs and they offer buffet for that. The full slab was generous in size but I didn’t think it would have mattered since we could have as many as we want. It was big and I only managed to have two of them. There is only so much meat I can take. The ribs were nice but not as fall off the bone as I would have liked. In fact, some of them can be considered a little tough. The sauce wasn’t was tasty as I like them to be. Perhaps that is their style here to better enjoy the meat itself, that try not to overwhelm it with sauce. Service was impeccable and the staff was always asking what we wanted, be it a refill or another beer. There might be better choices for dinner here in Ghent but for those who want some “Western” food, Sparerib Cafe is not a bad choice.
