I only heard about the Belgian town of Ghent by virtue of my friend who has been here several times. I have never heard of this place and how special it is. I had my doubts as well when I heard of it, since my friend was coming here purely to drink. I didn’t have the single purpose in mind coming here but I think we will be having drinks anyway since we will most probably be having dinner here. The town of Ghent is another one of those medieval towns which have been preserved. I guess that Belgium has a lot of these kinds of places and Ghent is one of the less well known ones. Ghent is actually one of the larger cities of Belgium but it still manages to keep that old town feel.

After taking the wrong tram, we took a tram from the train station to the city center which happens to be the most attractive part of the city. I knew next to nothing about this place so we were just randomly wandering around the city center. All I had were a few bars which my friend recommended we visit, but that was for dinner since we were here for sightseeing first. There were a lot of historical buildings which will remind you that you are in Europe. Parts of these areas have been turned into shopping areas but they were still not that bad or in your face. Unfortunately for us, it was raining and we had to take shelter until the rains die down.
