This was the first time for me to hear about the Historic Town of Bruges. I must admit that I don’t know much about Belgium. All I knew what that the capital is Brussels and they have good chocolate and beer. It seems that Bruges is one of the important places to visit here in Belgium, in fact it is probably one of the most popular tourist spots in the country. I had no idea why until I came here. It is a very well preserved medieval town. A lot of the structures are well maintained and it gives you the feeling of going back in time. Assuming that there weren’t a lot of tourists back then. Bruges has a lot to offer. Old churches, medieval buildings and surprisingly canals. Turns out that Bruges is a water town much like Venice.

To be fair, Bruges isn’t an island like Venice is but the similarities are there. There are numerous canals which run through the entire town. These run through some very old buildings and make for a very pretty sight. It is a different kind of pretty for Bruges since the styles of the buildings are quite different. As you might expect, there are also canal tours where you can see the water town up close and personal. I would prefer to explore the town on foot though. There are numerous bridges which cross the canals and I think they make great backdrops.
