Sint Salvator Cathedral in Bruges

Bruges is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Belgium. It is a well known historical city that has remained preserved all through the years. The streets of Bruges are a joy to walk in. The buildings and houses are all wonderfully preserved. What’s more, is that this is still a living and breathing city. I like how people can still go about their daily lives in this city which happens to be one of the most visited places in the country. We were walking down the road from the Bruges Railway Station and we were not really following any route.

We had tourist maps in tow as well as GPS maps. In the end, we weren’t using the map that we had with us. We just randomly walked around until we saw something important. In this case, it was a very tall tower. It appeared to be a church tower. This was the Sint Salvator Cathedral. I wasn’t sure how to translate the name in English. The most prominent feature of the cathedral is obviously the tower and it was ridiculously tall for a church tower. It seems tower are a status symbol here in Belgium since most major town seems to have a very tall tower like this. In this case it is a church tower, but like the town hall in Brussels, some towers can also be non-religious.
