Going to the Village of Cong

Swollen River at the Village of Cong

We had the day washed out for us. Our final day of exploring Galway City was ruined by the rain, and it wasn’t really rain that you could still go out in but this was quite heavy rain. I decided to call it quits and head back home. I asked that we pass by a small village on the way back. The village of Cong is said to be a beautiful village and I was hoping to be able to catch a glimpse of it. I wasn’t sure if it was raining in that part of the country but since it will be on the way, we decided to give it a shot.

By following the satnav, we were able to find this small village. Unfortunately, the weather was just as bad or maybe even worse than what was in Galway. The village of Cong is in county Mayo which is just next to Galway. On the way in the village, we will be greeted by the impressive Ashford castle. It is now a hotel but it probably makes for a great photo opportunity. I wasn’t sure if it is possible to go in the grounds for photos. I didn’t want to find out either since the rain was that heavy. The village is along a river but from the looks of it, it seems to be swollen from all the rain. I think any other day, it would have looked gorgeous but not now. The place was as depressing as it looks from the photos, I hope I would be able to visit this place properly next time.
