Thoughts on Dunguaire Castle

Dunguaire Castle

Dunguaire Castle

Dunguaire Castle is quite typical as far as Irish castles go. The designs are almost just variations of an existing one. In this case, the most prominent feature of Dunguaire Castle is probably the tower which sits behind the castle itself. The castle is surrounded by think wall to keep out invaders. Not really surprising that this is more of a fort than a castle. There were hardly any windows here since this is primarily a defensive structure. It does make you wonder how do they see what is outside if there are no windows.

Dunguaire Castle by the Sea

I was quite happy that day, the sky was very clear and the forecast seems to be very good for a change. It was quite chilly already but I was already prepared for that. I practically have my jacket on all the time. I guess that is something you will adjust to over time. I’m just glad that it doesn’t get too cold in winter. Looking back at Dunguaire Castle, it sits beautifully against the blue sky. Unfortunately, my postcard photo was ruined by some visitors. I guess I could try to remove them digitally. Only if I have time to do that though. It was time for us to move on. The day is short, we need to make use of the sunshine.
