Thoughts on Kylemore Abbey

I really enjoyed my visit to Kylemore Abbey. The place has a great atmosphere perfect for an abbey, mansion or a castle, which Kylemore happened to be at some points in time. These days people come to Kylemore Abbey to enjoy the beautiful area including the structure itself. It took us a while to get there from Galway and we were under the impression that it was quite near. It was almost an hour to get there and the weather was not very good. Since we have to come from the north, I think it would have been better for us to just head straight there instead of going to Galway then coming here, but that was our fault for not preparing.

Ironically, I loved the isolation of the place. The location at the foot of a hill and beside a lake was especially stunning. It seems like it is a place you would want to be alone and just go for a walk. Too bad it is too far from where I live. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to any nearby accommodations here, apart from buying a house nearby. There is still the Victorian Walled Garden to explore here but we don’t have time to do so. Judging from the map, I think it is going to a long walk since the garden is huge. I also saw a trail going to the top of the hill behind the abbey. I think that would have been an interesting walk. I would have loved to see the grounds from above.
