Elegant Dining Room at Kylemore Abbey

The sitting room at Kylemore Abbey was impressive. It is surely a luxury for an abbey to have this large a place but it is actually a mansion before that before the nuns acquired the estate. They probably kept most of it intact and only made use of some parts of the mansion. In fact, some parts of the mansion are still not accessible to the public. The next major room here at the abbey is the dining room. Like the sitting room, the dining room has all the trappings of luxury. The table is not that large but it was good to comfortably sit eight people.

The room was fully carpeted which is nice but it would have been terrible if there was a spill. The dining table was also decorated as if there was someone important coming for dinner, complete with candlesticks. I guess this is how it feels when you eat in a mansion. These places are way beyond my reach and I can only see them in movies or museums. I can’t see how this would be used by nuns. Perhaps it looks very different from this back then.
