A lot of the Western Art on exhibit here focuses on Christianity as a theme. Crosses, churches and paintings of religious figures are all staple for western art. I noticed that religion seems to inspire various forms of art and this is not just true for Western religions but also for easter religions. The Metropolitan Museum of Art features art from several religions with Christianity being the major ones. However, Islam is also represented here with its own gallery.

Islam is one of the world great religions and it has also produced numerous works of art. It is not very commonly seen but I think Islamic art is very beautiful. It uses a lot of geometric patterns which produces wonderful designs and they are used everywhere. You can see them in windows, doors and even on the ceilings. Islamic calligraphy is something I have always admired, I don’t know what it means but it really looks beautiful. The gallery here at the Metropolitan Museum of Art even has examples of Islamic architecture. Since I seldom see galleries like this, I think it is quite special.
