New York City and Brooklyn Bridge Traffic

New York City sits in Manhattan Island and it is bounded by rivers. There are several ways to get out of Manhattan Island, as there are a few tunnels which bore under the rivers. A lot of the subways pass under the river through these tunnels. The bus I took from New Jersey passes through a tunnel before emerging near the bus terminal. Another way, is probably the old way, is by building bridges. New York has several bridges which span the rivers that surround it. The most famous of these bridges is arguably the Brooklyn Bridge. I was pleasantly surprised to know that the Brooklyn Bridge is open to visitors. I managed to find the entrance to the bridge and emerged at the elevated walkway above the bridge.

The walkway isn’t that tall but it is high enough to see the traffic passing below and still keep the visitors safe. There was a nice wooden walkway here which makes for a pleasant experience. From the bridge you have a very good look at the New York cityscape. In particular, the One World Trade Center looms large. While the bridge walkway is lit, I think it would be better if I explored the bridge in the morning. The darkness on the night doesn’t really flatter the bridge and it doesn’t do it any justice. The entrance to the bridge is free so one can visit the bridge any time they want.
