Hall of Ornithischian Dinosaurs

Awesome Fossil of Triceratops at the American Museum of Natural History

I couldn’t contain my excitement seeing the fossils of extinct animals here at the American Museum of Natural History. There were numerous fossils of animals which I have only read about in books. I passed through the Hall of Advancement Mammals which are about extinct large mammals which came after the dinosaurs. The next hall is probably even more impressive. The Hall of Ornithischian Dinosaurs. Now, I never heard of that word before, but I would have imagine it to have something to with birds. It is probably only in name, as the Ornithischia means bird hipped, meaning the hip is like a bird. I am not a paleontologist so I will just leave it at that.

The hall contains some of the most charismatic dinosaurs. I guess if they make it to Jurassic Park then that makes them well known. One of the most prominent fossils here are of the Triceratops which is the three horned four legged dinosaur. Another one of the famous dinosaurs is the Stegosaurus. This is the one which has bony plates sticking out of its back. Both specimens seem to be much smaller than I imagined them to be. Then again, it doesn’t say if this is a normal full grown specimen. There were others of dinosaur fossils here and I was thrilled to see them. There is still another hall coming up, now what could that possibly be.
