Arriving at Liberty Island

While you can see the Statue of Liberty from New York city, nothing beats seeing the famous statue up close. As we were approaching Liberty Island, you can see the Statue of Liberty and New York city in the background. This has got to be an amazing sight to migrants who were approaching the island. To them, the Statue of Liberty represents a new life from whatever faraway land they came from. The port here at Liberty Island is not the first port of call of migrants but it is the first port of call of tourists like me.

My friend and I are actually in a hurry since we are supposed to meet up with a friend back in New York city because of this we will be doing a whirlwind tour of the Statue of Liberty. The port here was surprisingly bare. I was expecting a much more modern port but this was just a simple pier with shelter nearby. It was large enough to handle the thousands of people who visit everyday. It is not really that difficult to find out where to go. After all, the star attraction here is the Statue of Liberty itself. There is a direct path from the pier to the statue and we quickly made our way there.
