Having visited the United Nations Plaza, I finally decided to head to a different area of Manhattan. I was only walking all over the place and I wasn’t really sure where I would go. I ended up wandering into an apartment complex called Tudor City. Apparently, this place is a historic district because Tudor City can be considered the world’s first high rise apartment complex. Not really surprising that it would be done in New York City since land was already scarce even in back then. The apartment complex was built in the 1920s replacing what was a bad neighborhood.

They seem to have done a very good job here as one would not imagine a shantytown here. It is possible to climb to the podium of the complex. It also serves as a nice walkway to avoid walking on the streets below. At least, you don’t need to wait for traffic lights to cross streets since everything is all elevated. As a bonus, there is a nice little park here called the Tudor City Greens. It is like a breath of fresh air here as there is suddenly a quiet place to rest and take a break here. There are benches in the small park and it is open to the public. I like how they managed to make a nice urban oasis here hidden away from the streets below.
