Inside the Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York

The Saint Patrick’s Cathedral is the seat of the Catholic Church in New York. I kind of stumbled into this one but I was glad I did. So far, New York City for my has been true to what I had imagined it to be. It is basically a city full of impressive skyscrapers. I was glad to see a little bit of soul here in New York and that is in the form of this impressive Gothic Cathedral. I have been around Ireland and I have seen quite a few Gothic churches and all of them been quite impressive as Gothic churches tend to do. Coincidentally, this cathedral is dedicated to the patron saint of Ireland and that is Saint Patrick.

The Irish influence is huge here and that probably is most evident in the huge Saint Patrick’s Day parade which is probably bigger than the one in Dublin. The cathedral here has since turned into a major tourist attraction. When I went it, there were visitors pouring in an out of the Cathedral. It was a Sunday, so I wasn’t sure if most of them were just attending Mass or just having a look around. Parts of the cathedral interior are under construction especially the one near the altar. With the huge number of people here, I can’t really feel that this is still a place of worship. I am probably also guilty of making that so since I was also here trying to take photos of the beautiful cathedral.
