Thoughts on the Ards Forest Park

The Ards Forest Park is a gem of a destination which was fortunately located close to where I live. The park is only thirty minutes away and it is very accessible. There is no public transportation here though, so be prepared to drive. Include walking there as the the park is dotted with numerous trails for all sorts of hikers. The forest walk is nice and pleasant but there wasn’t much to see other than the forest. I prefer the coastal walk which is probably one of the strong points of the Ards Forest Park.

The park is located beside a bay and it has amazing seascapes for the intrepid hiker to see. I would recommend the coastal walk especially on a sunny day as the colors of the scenery come out as I found out rather spectacularly. The colors of summer where on full display and I couldn’t have asked for more except perhaps slightly warmer weather. I didn’t like that I was still wearing a thick jacket when I started hiking. I had to lose it after half an hour of walking though. The major trails in the Ards Forest Park were all well marked so it was easy enough to figure out where you are. The trails are also color coded to aid in remembering. Anyone visiting county Donegal should make it a point to visit this place as part of their itinerary.
