Riding One of the Cars in the Theme Park Ride at the Titanic Belfast

The Titanic Belfast is effectively an interactive museum decdicated to the ill-fated ship Titanic. Now, the story of the Titanic has been told over and over again in various media, perhaps most famously in the blockbuster movie Titanic, which I unfortunately watched. The museum tells various parts of the story of the Titanic from its conception, construction, its voyage and its unfortunate demise. This is all done in sequence as visitors go through the museum. Belfast was s center for shipbuilding back then, and one of the companies here, Hardland and Wolff, was tasked to build the massive ship. This was to ply the Southampton to New York route. There were various stories in the museum if you care to listen. Perhaps one of the more interesting activities here is what I can describe as a theme park ride.

Moving Through the Unfinished Titanic

A theme park ride in this museum? Yes. There is a track from which cars dangle from and it can comfortably sit six people. The ride brings visitors through the the still unfinished ship to give them an idea of how it was to be working in such a massive ship. The car was not just following a two dimensional route but it was also going down, turning the car around and finally going back up to where we started. There were sounds of people working banging away at the bolts, all the while telling the story of building the massive ship. There was even a part where there was “furnace” and it actually felt hot there. At the time we visited, there was a queue of visitors waiting to ride. It took us probably thirty minutes to clear the queue before it was our turn. The ride itself didn’t take very long either but I actually enjoyed it.
