Close Up Look at the Cliffs at Tory Island

The semi-paved road at Tory Island wasn’t particularly interesting. There were a few houses along the way which is still quite boring. We decided to walk away from the road and head towards what we thing the shore is. It wasn’t really far but I noticed that there was a slight slope as we were heading that direction. It was only when we reach the end that we discovered how high up we already were. What greeted us at the end of the path was an impressive drop into the sea.

The cliffs here seems to have come out of nowhere. Not surprising since this is how cliffs usually form. The cliffs were carved out from the island by the relentless waves of the Atlantic ocean. The waves here didn’t look that bad but considering that we were high up and we can still feel the ocean spray, then there must some serious energy there. There is a bit of a contrast in the rock formations where to the right we have sheer vertical cliffs. While to the left we have appear to be older formations where there water has broken the rock into smaller chunks. Ireland seems to have an unfair amount of these beautiful seascapes, I think most of it is due to its location facing the Atlantic. I’m just fortunate to be able to see it.
