Magheroarty Port is a small port in northern Donegal which is one of the main jumping off points to Tory Island. The earliest ferry which we can take is the 11:30 ferry and it was going to be an hour late. For now we were just taking in the sun in this surprisingly beautiful day. I remember being depressed that morning because it was miserable weather that morning. But it seems that here in the north the weather is much clearer. We spent the rest of our time just exploring the pier. There isn’t really much to see here and we can’t really wander too far anyway since the ferry might be arriving soon.

The pier is a concrete one which extends out into the sea. It is strong enough to support vehicles. Some piers that I have been to are made of wood and are not exactly very sturdy. Those types of piers have their own charm but Ireland probably isn’t the place to go looking for them. There were a few boats here at the pier and we were just having a look at them. Most of them were probably fishing boats. The boats didn’t look very big and I was worried how they would fare against the powerful waves of the Atlantic Ocean. In the Philippines, canoes and even small boats would have outriggers to increase their surface area to keep it stable. Perhaps these boats were large enough not to need those. The ship at the very end of the pier is ours and it was already loading passengers. I was hoping for a bigger boat but I guess this is all they have.
