View from the Hill at Strandhill

From the Top of the Sandy Hill at Strandhill

There was a large hill made of sand at the beach in Strandhill, probably created by the powerful wind and waves which constantly pound this area. I have a suspicion that Strandhill might have gotten its name from this hill since this is a hill by the strand of beach. I can’t confirm this though but at least the hill is open for visitors to ascend. The hill isn’t terribly tall but it is a bit steep. It would probably be okay if the path was stable. Unfortunately, the path is made of sand, no doubt worsened by the numerous people who climb this hill. I was trying my best to keep my footing, it wasn’t easy since the winds were blowing and threaten to knock me down. I tried looking for more stable ground and decided that where the plants are would be more stable and walking on sand to slide all the way down.

After a few anxious parts of the path, I reach the top. From here, you can see the entire area. You can see how powerful the waves are since the water is all white. Further out to see, it is not as bad. Looking down, you can only realize that you are so high up when you see people walking along the beach. Even in the photos that I took, they look so tiny. After a few minutes admiring the scenery, I started to make my way down. Going down is actually much more difficult than going up. There is nothing to stop you from rolling all the way down if you make a mistake. I don’t know if this has ever happened though. It took much longer for me to get down since the sand was moving under my feet. I was relieved to reach solid ground but my friends seem to be in a hurry to leave. It was their loss since they didn’t get to walk all the way up.
